Traditional wedding attire: proud display of culture 2

February 18, 2022

Traditional wedding attire is one unique feature that makes each of the ethnic groups stand out.

For weddings, there is so much at stake. It takes a lot of planning, and all.

The commitment and all that goes into making things happen is top notch, to say the least.

It demands so much from the would-be couple and their families and friends.

So much goes into the preparation and even more so, the execution, which is the actual wedding ceremony.

The financial commitment is better explained than experienced.

You are practically preparing for a whole community who are out to eat your food and ‘wash it down’ with a keg of palm wine or any other form of alcoholic drinks the would-be couple has to offer.

Well, let us not lose sight of the focus of this piece.

It is all about fashion and fashion trends.

You notice there were about three different stages before a typical Igbo wedding is said to be official, traditionally.

And in all of these stages, the choice of outfits for the occasion must be appropriate.

So, care must be taken to get things spot on.

On the day of the wedding, you are expected to show up in two attires.

First, the traditional wedding attire for welcoming your guests, second is the actual attire for the event.

This is standard procedure, but this can vary.

The bride-to-be can sew a skirt and blouse, Gown, or tie a wrapper of lace material George and so on at her chest.

She will also need to put beads on her neck, hand and hair, preferably coral beads.

Note that the requirements are different with each of Nigeria’s ethnic groups.

We have provided you photos to show.

For sure, you now have a feel of what getting set for a typical traditional wedding requires.

Traditional wedding attire is not a piece of relic or symbol of culture.

It can determine the success or failure of a wedding.
